Height - 16-18 cm, weight - 140-150 g.
In three weeks the child has grown and almost doubled in weight. Now it already weighs more than the placenta, and is comparable in size to an open palm.
The placenta is now fully formed and actively conducts nutrients from mother to child and removes the baby's waste in the opposite direction. It is covered with a dense network of blood vessels. By the time of delivery, she will reach a weight of 480 g with a thickness of 2.5 cm.
From this week on, the fatty layer of the baby's body is formed, the so-called "brown fat" is deposited - a special type of adipose tissue that actively participates in the process of heat exchange. Now in a child's body water is about 80%, and fat is only 0.5-1%. However, by the time of delivery, 3.5 kg of the child's weight will have 2.4 kg of fat, i.e. about 70%! The baby's eyes are still closed, but the eyeballs under the eyelids are actively moving.
The baby's brain is functioning completely, it already reacts to auditory, visual, tactile stimuli, especially to loud noises that arise near the mother. Therefore, starting this week, you can engage in musical education of the child, or even just talk to him more often. Involve your dad in family conversations!
Moms continue to wait for the baby's first movements if they haven't felt them last week. Their expectation can stretch up to 20 - 21 weeks. If the movements are not detected even at this time, you should definitely be examined by a doctor. You should not worry in advance: many mothers, especially those who give birth for the first time, simply take the movements of their baby for something else and do not pay attention to them.
Weight gain is progressing faster and faster. Now, you may already be in positive territory by 3.5-3.8 kg (normal). The uterus is felt 3.5-5 cm below the navel. It grows up quickly and takes on an oval rather than round shape. Very soon, you will feel how your internal organs are squeezing and moving up and to the sides.
The tummy has already begun to bulge noticeably forward, and even the thinnest ones can feel fat there. It serves as an additional warm blanket for the baby, in addition, this layer helps the metabolism. In the most extreme case, body fat can, to some extent, save the baby from injury if something unpleasant happens to the mother (for example, a fall). If you haven’t done shopping for pregnant women yet, then it’s time to give yourself this pleasure.
Plus, you already want to find a comfortable sleeping position. A growing tummy does not allow you to feel as free as before. Before going to bed, you begin to toss and turn for a long time, choosing the most suitable position for rest.
Generations of mothers have empirically come to the following conclusions:
- it is better not to sleep on your back, it can be difficult to breathe, and the uterus presses on the vena cava and aorta passing in the abdominal cavity;
- it is better not to sleep on your stomach, it is already round and still will not allow you to rest normally;
- it is most convenient to sit on your side, placing pillows under your stomach and behind your back, in general, you should always keep pillows next to you - an irreplaceable thing!
The load on your heart has already increased by 20-40%! Don't be surprised if you have increased bleeding from your gums or occasionally bleeding from your nose.
Your kidneys, like your heart, are working extremely hard. The baby grows and more and more actively consumes oxygen and other substances, so your kidneys are more actively involved in the removal of the child's waste products.
Do not forget to regularly take urine tests in order to have time to intercept inflammatory processes. If you have not experienced kidney disease before, the first sign is urination problems. Now you go to the toilet more often than usual, this is a normal condition during pregnancy.
But if the feeling of a full bladder does not go away, there is a constant urge to urinate, and at the same time only a drop is excreted, if this process is accompanied by a burning sensation and discomfort, if, finally, your back begins to hurt in the region of the ribs, the temperature rises and falls sharply - you should urgently consult a doctor, preferably a nephrologist. All these are symptoms of infectious cystitis or pyelonephritis.
Do not try to self-medicate and "endure the disease." This can lead to disastrous results and serious complications, up to and including removal of the kidney. In addition, infections of the genitourinary system can lead to an underweight baby or even premature birth.
The sooner you see your doctor, the more likely you will not have to resort to strong medications such as antibiotics or surgery for treatment.
Among the prophylactic agents against kidney disease, one can point out an abundant drink (sour fruit drinks, cranberry juice, still water are especially good), parsley, protection of the body from colds and drafts. Also, never put up with going to the toilet.
Another unpleasant condition can be increased sweating and vaginal discharge (leucorrhoea). A good antiperspirant and clothing made from natural materials will help to cope with sweat.
Leucorrhoea is also not something pathological, although their number can cause discomfort. Undoubtedly, you need to consult a doctor who will recommend an effective and harmless remedy for the child to get rid of the discharge. In addition, you should try to keep the crotch dry and clean, wear cotton underwear, avoid tight clothing (tight jeans, tights), and do not use tampons.
If the discharge becomes green or yellow, has a very unpleasant odor, redness or itching begins, then it is likely that an infection has occurred and smears should be immediately taken for analysis and the necessary treatment should be started. By the time of delivery, the mother's birth canal should not become a source of infection for the baby.
What medications shouldn't you use during pregnancy? Of course, first of all, those on the instructions to which is "contraindicated during pregnancy."
Secondly, the composition of the drug should be checked for the presence of:
All of these substances are contraindicated during pregnancy.
