Second month of pregnancy

Future child

Height - 1.6-2.2 cm, weight - 1 g.

The most important changes in the baby's body will be the appearance of the rudiments of the organs of vision and hearing, lungs, liver, thyroid gland, neural tube - the prototype of the spinal cord and spine.

There is an intensive formation of the skeleton. The body of the embryo is divided into arms and legs, the feet, palms, fingers are separated. The arms are lengthened, the elbow joint appears. Muscles gradually develop, the baby even actively moves, but you still cannot feel it.

From 21 days after conception, the heartbeat can be determined. The heart rate reaches 140-150 beats per minute, almost twice that of the mother. It can already pump blood and is even divided into right and left halves. A system of blood vessels is being created. The embryo already has its own blood type.

The head of the unborn child is disproportionately large compared to the rest of the body. Eyes, ears, nose and mouth are actively forming, although these are only dots so far. The digestive tract begins to form.

The spinal cord and central nervous system develop very quickly. Every minute a child develops 100,000 new nerve cells. We can talk about the emergence of paired hemispheres of the future brain and cerebellum. A tiny tubercle appears between the legs - the external genital organs will then develop from it. But it is still impossible to determine whether it is a boy or a girl.

By the end of the month, the baby's gill slits and the right umbilical vein disappear (only one left one remains). But the "tail" of the child will finally disappear only after a couple of weeks. Your baby has grown to the size of a small olive tree and is already beginning to resemble a real man.

Future mom

Your uterus has begun to grow: by the end of the month, it will have reached the size of a grapefruit. Favorite things will already become a little cramped, but the tummy is not yet noticeable.

You took the test and made sure you are pregnant. Now is the right time to pay a visit to the doctor and register with the antenatal clinic. It is best to do this before 9 weeks, in order to undergo an ultrasound scan at 10 weeks and pass the necessary tests.

It is necessary to visit a doctor before the 20th week of pregnancy at least once every 4 weeks. At the first appointment, the doctor will fill out a special card, which will include data on your age, height, weight, what diseases you had, whether there are pathologies, etc. Your smears will be taken for infections (mycoplasma, ureaplasma, streptococci, gonococci, syphilis).

You will receive referrals for blood tests (clinical, biochemistry, blood type, Rh factor, hCG, AIDS and infections (toxoplasmosis, rubella, cytomegalovirus, herpes simplex 1 and 2, parvovirus B19)), as well as a general urine test.

In addition to tests in the first trimester of pregnancy, you need to be examined by a therapist, dentist, ophthalmologist, endocrinologist, and otolaryngologist.

In the second month, you may be very worried about toxicosis. It will end by the 12th week of pregnancy, while you have to endure it. Most often, toxicosis comes in the morning, but it can catch at any time, especially in transport or a stuffy room.

Therefore, you should carry emergency bags, wet wipes and a small bottle of water with you. It is best to move around alone as little as possible.

In addition to toxicosis, you may be overcome by severe physical fatigue, drowsiness, headache or dizziness, frequent urination, constipation, heartburn, appetite swings, and strange taste preferences ("pulled salty").

Your breasts are changing. It swells, becomes a little painful, nodules swell around the nipples - the so-called Montgomery nodules. The skin may suddenly become dry and irritated or become covered with acne - this is a reaction to hormonal changes in the body.

Mood swings become very noticeable. You may suddenly become nervous and even cry. But things are not at all as bad as you sometimes think. It's just your body's reaction to pregnancy.

The main danger of the second month is early miscarriage. Therefore, try to follow these rules:
1. Eat small but frequent meals well and wholesome.
2. Drink still mineral water or freshly squeezed juices often. Tea and coffee should be gradually eliminated from the diet.
3. Take prenatal vitamins.
4. Stop smoking immediately if you are a smoker.
5. Do not overheat. Hot baths, baths, saunas, solariums can stimulate miscarriage as well as hinder the normal development of the child's spine.
6. Listen carefully to your body every day. If you have any pain or red-brown discharge from your vagina, lie down on the couch and call your doctor.
7. Limit your sports and fitness, replace them with a visit to the pool.
