Height - 37 cm, weight - 1200 g.
With the modern development of medicine, a child born after 28 weeks of pregnancy has almost every chance of survival, especially if he does not have congenital abnormalities.
But at this time, the baby will be born still thin, with wrinkled skin, with lanugo fluff all over the body, which usually comes off by the time of normal childbirth. His nose and ears are still very soft, because the cartilages have not had time to harden enough. Underdevelopment of the genitals is observed (in girls, the labia minora are not yet covered with large ones, and in boys the testicles have not descended into the scrotum).
The child's lungs are not yet sufficiently developed. The number of alveoli is growing rapidly, soon there will be 50 million! At 28 weeks, the cells lining the alveoli already accumulate a certain amount of surfactant - a substance similar to soap, which is also called "surfactant".
The surfactant is formed at 22-24 weeks of gestation and will prevent the alveoli from sticking together when the baby takes its first inhalation and exhalation. By the 36th week of pregnancy, the baby's lungs are already sufficiently prepared to breathe on their own.
A very important event takes place in the brain. It grows so fast that now folds are formed on it: "convolutions" and "grooves" that increase the surface of the cortex. By the way, the convolutions and grooves in humans are much larger than in other primates.
The brain mass increases. By the time of birth, it will be approximately 400 g (about 12-13% of body weight). Brain mass in an adult ranges from 1200-1400 (about 2% of body weight.
The nerve fibers are covered with a special fatty membrane called myelin. It provides a faster passage of nerve impulses. Therefore, all the baby's senses will be sharpened. He confidently responds to the sound, listens and studies someone else's speech, even tries to make movements with his larynx, as if screaming or uttering sounds.
You hardly doubt that the baby will recognize your voice. You even have a kind of dialogue - it's very funny to talk "with the one who sits in the pond" and feel his jolts in response.
The kid gets fat and it becomes more and more difficult for him to actively move. Soon you will feel how the intensity of his "flights" within you changes. Now he more and more resembles not a circus athlete, but a big bear, which is cramped in his den. And he tosses and turns for a long time and with special care.
Is it a joke to lay down a comfortably grown and fat body! By the way, over the past 12 weeks, the child's weight has increased by about 10 times. At this time, dad, putting his hand on his stomach, can very well feel the baby's movements and even figure out where his ass is and where his head is.
The average weight gain this week is about 9 kg, the height of the fundus of the uterus is 28 cm. Fat deposits form on the abdomen, buttocks and thighs, and veins can appear on the chest. Remember to maintain correct upright posture so that the pressure of your weight does not develop arching of the spine.
You continue to have braxtons (see article about 23 weeks pregnant) and have amazing dreams. Compared to the first weeks of pregnancy, when you saw vivid good dreams, after which you felt a surge of energy, dreams in the middle and third trimester leave rather a depressing feeling.
One of the main themes of such "nightmares of pregnant women" is falling from a great height to the ground or from the ground into a huge well, etc.
The second type of dreams are dreams of childbirth. Moreover, childbirth often dreamed of without pain at all ("in a dream I gave birth, but did not notice how"). Sometimes dreams about childbirth can be terrifying. One woman dreamed that after her first child she gave birth to five more, and the doctor told her in a dream that she had many more children inside her.
The feeling of sleep was very disturbing and unpleasant. Others dream of childbirth, but not painless, but extremely painful (up to the following: "To give birth, I pull the leg that sticks out of my belly ...").
Still others see their future children in a dream. And nothing else if ordinary small children dream. But if newborns in a dream already have a mouthful of teeth, walk, talk and read books, then such a dream can be scary.
The third type of dreams is conflict with the husband. There are nightmares about how the dreamer is abandoned by her husband, or goes to war or on a long voyage, or goes to prison (sometimes the dreamer herself goes to prison). Or it has nothing to do with her husband, but a global catastrophe (war, environmental disaster, flood, earthquake) is taking place in the world around.
Psychologists believe that nightmares arise due to the physiological inconveniences that the expectant mother experiences during these periods of pregnancy: the internal organs are cramped, the uterus presses on the bladder, cramps and swelling of the legs occur.
Therefore, in order not to suffer from nightmares, try to make your sleep as comfortable as possible. Cover yourself with pillows, do some back exercises, massage your arms and legs, stay low at night, ventilate the room, and walk more often before bed.
Unpleasant dreams can also arise because of your inner fears of childbirth, worries about your child and husband. You may be afraid of losing your freedom with the birth of a child, as well as ruining family relationships. In this case, communication with doctors, psychologists and experienced mothers will help you (in the LCD, in courses, on the Internet, in the yard, in the club - no matter where).
In the near future, you should visit a doctor and take the usual set of tests: a clinical blood test, a general urine test, a hemostasiogram with a D-dimer (see the article on the 20th week of pregnancy), and an ECG. The doctor may also prescribe a blood sugar test to prevent the possible development of pregnancy diabetes.
If you are Rh negative, an antibody test should be done. They form if your baby is Rh positive and can destroy red blood cells in your baby's blood. This is very dangerous because causes anemia and leads to other serious diseases (for example, hemolytic). Therefore, at 28 weeks, an injection of immunoglobulin must be given, which prevents the formation of antibodies in the mother's blood.
If you are expecting more than one child, then from the 29th week your maternity leave will begin. Therefore, during your visit to the consultation, take a sick leave from your doctor, on the basis of which you will be paid vacation for 194 days (84 days before delivery and 110 days after delivery in case of multiple pregnancies). This leave is paid at the rate of 100% of the woman's average earnings in the previous 12 months.
We will talk in more detail about the documents that a pregnant woman needs to collect in the article 30 weeks of pregnancy. For now, we will only note that on week 28 an exchange card is usually issued and handed over to a woman. Now you should visit a doctor exclusively with an exchange card, it is advisable not to leave the house without it at all, since in the event of an emergency hospitalization (God forbid), doctors will quickly have all the data about you.
All examination results are recorded in the "exchange": blood and urine tests, ultrasound, Doppler, CTG, ECG, blood group, rhesus, etc. If there is no data on the analyzes in the exchange card at the time the expectant mother enters the maternity hospital, then she will be considered conditionally infected with all possible diseases, and, therefore, will be put in the pathology department or in a specialized maternity hospital. This is done to prevent possible infection of other women in labor and children with AIDS, hepatitis, rubella, etc.
After the birth of the child, all data on childbirth, information on the size and health of the baby, vaccinations and examinations will be entered into the "exchange". You will give this special part of the card to the children's clinic when you register the newborn.
