It is believed that the manufacturer always tries to show overestimated characteristics, which is why the real speed of the car must be measured with the help of outside observers.
For this, standard conditions are used, which are known in advance, and can be compared. Only if the results correspond to such a procedure, they can be entered, for example, in the Guinness Book of Records.
And there is a serious struggle between automakers literally every day, the situation can change at any time. As a result, not only longtime members of the elite club of the fastest production cars - McLaren, Lamborghini or Bugatti, but also little-known Koenigsegg or Shelby - can get into the rating. There is even an unspoken club of cars that were able to break the 250 mph bar. So, here it is an elite rating.
The first place in it is occupied by the SSC Ultimate Aero, which reaches a speed of 412 km / h. The manufacturer is Shelby SuperCars. The record was set in September 2008. But about this model, as well as about the manufacturer, few have heard. The panned series, of course, will be small - only 25 cars. And gasoline will have to be purchased only from the manufacturer's company - ordinary fuel will kill the engine. By the way, the technical characteristics of the car indicate the speed of 438 km / h. The previous record of the same brand was set as follows: on a free road, the car accelerated to 413 km / h, but the return road was covered only with an indicator of 409 km / h, resulting in a value of 411.76 km / h. The record holder's power is amazing - 1287 horsepower! Acceleration of a car is more difficult to measure than speed, so these manufacturer's figures should be trusted even less. Shelby SuperCars itself cites record numbers. So, up to 60 miles per hour, a car accelerates in 2.78 seconds, the usual rate of 100 km / h obeys in 2.88 seconds. Although the price for such a car is discussed individually, it clearly exceeds a million dollars. The front of the machine is equipped with a hydraulic system that can raise it up to 4 inches to overcome uneven road surfaces.
The second place belongs to the Bugatti Veyron, which accelerated to 407 km / h at the test site. The manufacturer claims that the car reaches a speed of 100 km / h in 2.5 seconds. However, this parameter is most likely overstated. After all, the power of the Bugatti Veyron is only "1001" hp, which is 280 horses less than the leader, although the shown result is better. But this particular supercar is considered to be the most expensive production car. Its declared price is about one and a half million dollars. The fuel consumption of the car is simply huge, but this applies to all cars of this kind - 40.4 liters per 100 km in the city, 14.7 liters on the highway and 24.1 liters in mixed mode. Like the leader of the rating, there are seats for only two people. Launched at a Volkswagen branch, the car owes its name to Pierre Veyron, who won the Bugatti race at Le Mans in 1939. The story of its appearance began in 1999, when a concept developed by an Italian studio was shown in Tokyo. However, the first models were more luxurious than sporty. In 2001, a pre-production sample appeared in Geneva, which managed to change not only the name, but also the appearance with the filling. Despite the provocative possibilities, the car can easily move at a speed of 250 km / h, while applying power of 270 hp, leaving the rest of the possibilities in reserve.
Next is the Swedish Koenigsegg CCX. This little-known supercar in our country has officially reached a speed of 388 km / h. The passport says that acceleration to 100 km / h occurs in 3.2 seconds. The car has a capacity of 806 horsepower, and its cost is about 700 thousand dollars. Swedish engineers unexpectedly burst into the ranks of the leaders, having managed to prove that high results can be achieved with the help of cheap and economical carbon plastics and the latest technologies. The car is a redesigned version of its younger brother, the CCR. The car was made slightly longer to comply with US rear collision regulations. The engine can run on US 91 octane fuel while meeting emission standards. The headroom increased by 5 cm made this supercar the most spacious in its class.
This is followed by the McLaren F1, which was able to reach speeds of 386 km / h. It is not far behind the Koenigsegg CCX. But this record was held for a long time - from 1994 to 2005. The passport says that the car accelerates to 100 km / h in 3.3 seconds. The power of the "formula" engine is 627 km / h, and its creator is BMW. The legendary supercar costs about a million dollars. In total, about a hundred of these cars were produced and sold, which have served as a reference point for today's record holders for 10 years. The entire design of a sports car is a complete compromise. Its creator Gordon Murray fought mercilessly for weight loss. As a result, everything that was possible was made of carbon fiber - there are 5,500 such parts! As a result, the weight of the car was 1137 kg, which made the model the lightest of the supercars. In the car, however, there is no power steering and brakes, there are no airbags and ABS system, but there is air conditioning and an audio system, leather seats and carpets on the floor.
Saleen S7 Twin Turbo, although it has a maximum of 399 km / h documented by the manufacturer, but these figures on the polygons have not been achieved. The passport acceleration to 100 km / h is 3.2 seconds, and the engine power is 750 hp. Of course, a supercar is not cheap - 550-600 thousand dollars. A high level of comfort has been created in the car - a high-quality interior is equipped with a climate control system, the windshield is heated, and information from the rear-view camera is displayed on the multimedia screen. The appearance of the car was developed by American designer Phil Frank.
Jaguar XJ220 in 1995 was able to reach the milestone of 349 km / h, since then it has remained in the top ten fastest cars. The car needs 3.6 seconds to accelerate to 100 km / h, and its power is 542 hp. The price for an elite car is relatively low - only 340-400 thousand dollars. And here it was not without a stylist - the development of the appearance was carried out under the leadership of Keith Helfet. It is noteworthy that the traditional features of the British brand are still traced in the supercar. True, the car does not have an electronic security system - the driver himself must control everything. In addition, the interior is not comfortable enough - people taller than 175 cm will have to bend their heads. But inside there is a leather interior and a CD changer and a lot of dial instruments - four of them are even located on the driver's door.
The Pagani Zonda F may not be the fastest car at 346 km / h, but it is the fastest convertible. The speed of 100 km / h is reached in 3.6 seconds, and the power is 600 hp. On real training grounds, Zonda was able to overtake Ferrari Enzo and Maserati MC12. The pleasure of owning such a car is not cheap - 700-800 thousand dollars. The supercar is produced by the Argentine manufacturer in Italy. Its debut took place in 1999, today 25 cars are produced annually. The development was attended by the champion of Forumula-1 Juan Manuel Fangio. It was in honor of him that the supercar was named, but the driver died in 1995. The history of the appearance of the name is associated with bullfighting. In 1879, the Murcielago bull was able to withstand the famous matador Molina, even 24 sword blows could not knock the animal down. Delighted with the courage of his rival, the matador gave him life. The bull was then acquired by a breeder, leaving numerous offspring. The public first saw the design of the model in 2001 at the Frankfurt Motor Show.
