The most famous skateboarders

Skateboarding is an extreme sport in which people ride and also perform various tricks on a skateboard. Their first skateboards were ordinary boards with wheels attached to them.

In the early 1960s, skateboards began to be produced on an industrial basis, and thanks to the media, sports became popular, championships began to be held. But the names of the most famous and important athletes for skateboarding remain in the shadows, which we will try to fix.

Rodney Mullen, USA. Like many other stars of this sport, Rodney represents famous brands - Globe, Almost, Tensor. Mullen's contribution to skateboarding is difficult to overestimate. You can just mention that it was he who came up with half of the tricks that formed the basis of his current skating. The main inventions of the athlete are the ollie (the jump with the board, which is the basis of almost all tricks), as well as the kickflip, which became the guarantee of all flips. Mullen was the first to perform about 20-25 of the variety of tricks. In the late 80s, Rodney began to promote extreme sports on the streets and by his own example showed that skateboarding is not only about ramps, bowls and verts. The fact is that since the appearance of this direction in the 1960s, a stereotype has emerged that it is strongly associated with radii. Rodney was the one who was able to change public opinion. The great athlete still skates, filming for video. His last big profile was in Almost's Round 3 video. They say that Rodney Mullen wants to do at least one more game of tricks.

Tony Hawk, USA. This skateboarder's name is associated with brands such as Birdhouse, Quiksilver and Fury. Tony Hawk is rightfully considered the most famous skater in the world and the most successful. He began performing in the late 1970s and since then has continued to demonstrate the most difficult tricks. At the age of 12, Hawke acquired his first sponsor, and at the age of 14 he already received the status of "Pro". Hawke's successes are associated with vert skateboarding. For a long time, he was considered the best ramp skater of all. It was Tony who was the first to do 900, that is, a rotation of 2.5 turns. This happened during the X-Games in 1999. And world fame came to Tony Hawk after the release of the computer game "Tony Hawk's Proskater". This project was originally planned as a private. However, unexpectedly, the game became a bestseller among gamers and skaters all over the world for many years. More than ten sequels of the famous series have already been released, each time the graphics and gameplay are improving. Thanks to this game, skateboarding became popular all over the world, and Tony Hawk himself became famous. In competitions, he has not been filmed for several years, however, he is filmed in video and in photos.

Mark Gonzales, USA. Associated with this athlete are Adidas, Krooked, 4star, Spitfire and Independent. Gonzales is considered to be the pioneer of street skateboarding as we know it. Although Rodney Mullen went outside long before Mark, he worked mostly on flat surfaces, avoiding additional obstacles. But Gonzales was the first to see one continuous skateboarding ground in the streets of cities, modern architecture and urban landscape. Thus, the athlete managed to turn skating into a creative and varied activity. Mark was the first who managed to do a trick on his skateboard on the street railings, he was one of the first to skate in a switch. It should be noted that Mark's successes are not limited to this sport alone, he has achieved good success in art. The skater draws a lot, there are even exhibitions of his work. Many of Mark's sketches are used even in Krooked's deck designs. True, Gonzales is known for his strange deeds and not always adequate behavior. She learned how to do tricky flip in / flip out tricks, jump on rails in switch and nollie. As a result, we can now contemplate all this in modern video. It is worth respecting Koston for being constantly in sight and not inferior to his young competitors. Until now, Eric is not afraid to jump from big steps, he conquers the rails and comes up with new, unexplored combinations of tricks.

Williams turned out to be charismatic and managed to make a name for himself. The athlete had a great influence on the formation of a new, rap style with high clicks, jumping from the floor over tables, sliding along the edges to the waist, and also tricks in the switch.
