How to develop memory


How often do you hear a phrase like "phenomenal memory"? Do you envy those people who you think are endowed with it? Indeed, memory is an invaluable tool to help you work more efficiently and successfully in various specialties. Everyone has memory, but not everyone is able to use it.

Our life is impossible without the incessant memorization of any significant events, facts, data. It turns out that in some cases you, most likely, even unconsciously use effective memorization techniques, and in other cases this does not happen - you lose this or that information.

What is memory? Memory is nothing more than one of the functions of our brain, it is he who allows us to store memories and retrieve them from memory as needed. Since memory is a function of the brain, it can be developed and trained. It is a mistake to believe that memory is different for different people, so only the process of memory, or, in other words, the way of memorizing, is different.

It is believed that a person in his activities uses only one part of the ten abilities of the brain. The same is true of memory. But even if you do not improve memory tenfold, you can achieve positive changes in any case.

There are 3 types of memory: visual (it is "fed" by our observations), auditory (it is "fed" by sound sensations) and motor. The most difficult thing to deal with is motor memory, since the concepts of visual and auditory memory have long been known to us. So, the third kind of memory is a specific way to learn from your mistakes. It is she who plays the leading role, for example, when the child takes the first steps. Another example: we don’t think about how to write this or that letter when we write this or that text. What are the ways to develop and train memory?

First tip. Memory is associated with attention. By training attention, you train memory. Indeed, we notice any objects only at the moment when we are attentive, and they remain in our memory. Hence it follows that it is necessary to train our attention, by the way, this can be done in the form of a game. For example, you can compete with someone who will find more houses with red roofs, etc. Looking for differences in almost identical pictures is also an option for developing attention, since you force your brain to focus on details. With the help of this work on attention, you will achieve that in non-standard situations your brain will work actively. Gradually, you will be able to grasp all the important information on the fly.

Second tip. Use different types of memory to achieve the same goal. What does it mean? Take the multiplication table, for example. So her child will learn much faster if he does not just speak it (thereby using the auditory memory), but speak and rewrite at the same time. In the second case, not only auditory memory will work, but also visual and motor memory. It is also very effective, for example, to learn poetry while doing some kind of exercise.

Third tip. Information for memorization "put on the shelves." If you need to learn a formula, be sure to review an example of its use. If you need to own this or that text, then make a summary of it. If you have any questions while memorizing, be sure to sort them out. The material will be assimilated much better if a person independently obtains what is needed. If you do not understand any words in your abstract or textbook, then do not be lazy to look at their meanings, it will be much easier to remember.

Fourth tip. Repeat what you want to remember. If you have poor auditory but good visual memory, the following exercise will be helpful. Imagine this situation. You meet a friend and he gives you a phone number. Unfortunately, you have nothing to write it down. Imagine your mobile phone, and while the interlocutor dictates a number to you, you must mentally dial it on the phone. Ask to repeat the number again, and this time say it. Using such an exercise will certainly affect your memory on the positive side.

Fifth tip. Discover new things for yourself. Consider the following situation. While watching the news or movies, you do not bother yourself with the thought that you need to remember this or that event. Information that interests you involuntarily remains in your memory. On the other hand, that part of the student body who regularly attend lectures and study throughout the semester, as a rule, does not experience difficulties in preparing for the exam. Why is this happening? The answer is simple. The material is memorized at an unconscious level, and when it comes time for the session, the student can easily use it.

Sixth tip. Pay attention to self-organization. If your brain cannot realize what exactly and at what point in time it needs to remember, then how can it remember it? The diary is a wonderful thing. Those who believe that diaries were invented for those who have a bad memory, who have difficulty remembering what they need to do, are wrong. A diary is primarily needed for self-organization, planning your time. Another tip - get ready for school or work in the evening, do not postpone this activity until the morning, because you run the risk of getting into a situation when you will be late for the appointed place and do not have time to really get ready. Train yourself to do everything on time.

Seventh tip. Develop your own rules to help improve memory. How to do it? Listen and take a closer look at yourself. Identify those times when you have a hard time remembering something. Work on the identified situations. Putting a cross on your hand is not an option for many. We need an alternative. Make yourself small cribs; to some extent, small pieces of paper glued in the most prominent places of the apartment or office will do. However, you should not write all the information on them, it is more beneficial for the development of memory to make associative drawings or notes on them, and your brain itself must remember the most important things.
